Doom and gloom...

Image
(Click to enlarge) Check out my Rolling Stones 50th anniversary HTML5 interactive graphic, complete with studio album discography, band member history, photo gallery, and samples of their first single Come On and new single Doom And Gloom . Did I squeeze enough into 800 x 600 pixels?! (Click to enlarge) I think it's my most ambitious non-Flash interactive graphic yet (I used  Adobe Edge Animate ) and has been a labour of love for several days. You can view it by following THIS LINK and pressing the Play button (shown in the red circle below). (Click to enlarge) The Rolling Stones new album GRRR! , is out on Monday, November 12.

The name's Animate, Edge Animate...

I enjoyed some geeky fun this week building a James Bond interactive graphic for work. We've been dabbling with Adobe Edge Animate for a few months now, trying to get our heads around a slightly different approach to web animation. For non-nerds, Edge lets you make animations (that work on PCs as well as iPhones, iPads etc.) that are not built in the rapidly fading  Flash  application. (Click to enlarge) My interactive looks at where Bond's missions have taken him around the world in 23 movies and will be available on the front page of Graphic News' website for a few days, as we near the 50th anniversary of James Bond and the release of  Skyfall . (Click to enlarge) On the Graphic News website , click on the  "50 years of James Bond" heading and then the  "MOVIES: James Bond film locations iGraphic"  link  (1) , followed by the  "Play"   button  (2)  on the right. (Click to enlarge) If that all sounds like too much

Tabloid fun!

I was gathering foreign newspaper clippings of my widely used Graphic News iPhone 5 graphic yesterday, when I came across this blinder from Blesk in the Czech Republic (it makes The Sun look a little reserved). Great to see it competing for the attention of readers against soft porn on Page 1 though ;) (Click to enlarge... ooh, matron!)

Exposed!

The Guardian newspaper pulls back the veil on my "secret" employer... (Click to enlarge) Visit the paper's behind-the-scenes article  here.

Here's one I made earlier...

Wow, it's been a while since I did a blog entry. Four months maybe? Since joining Graphic News and moving to a temporary home, I've been too busy to do one. The only reason this is going up now is because I've been off work sick today! My old Globe And Mail work colleague Dean Tweed, asked if I'd been moonlighting for my former employer when he saw this graphic in the paper today. (click to enlarge – also, Globe online version can be found  here ) Er, no, I haven't. This is a graphic I did back in July 2009 when the car and bodies were found. I remember it being a super-tight deadline and only just getting it out in the scant few hours I had. But it's nice to see it get a second life and good to see it was on the money and required very little "verdict tweaking".
